Grahammy Nominees for Album of the Year
It is finally the time of year for the biggest awards in music The Grahammy's! This week nominees for Album of the Year are announced with the winner chosen next week in addition to the winners for other categories as well. Take a listen to these great albums and maybe your favorite will be chosen for Album of The Year.
I've complied the best track from each of the nominated albums into a playlist, as well as the entire album for each band. These albums were chosen for the quality of the entire album from beginning to end so I highly recommend listening to the entire album if you enjoy any of the tracks in the playlist below. Also remember to hit the Subscribe button above if you haven't already to get an email reminder when the winner is announced next week! You can click on the album art to pull up the album in Spotify rather than the YouTube links.
Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars
Best Track - Stones
This album is a return to form for a legend. Normally at the stage of an artist’s career where they stop making music you love and are eclipsed by newer artists Bruce proves that he still has it and combined with his Broadway show and fabulous Netflix special it was a big year for Springsteen.
“You fall in love with lonely, you end up that way
Hello sunshine, won’t you stay?”
Cigarettes After Sex - Cry
Best Track - Touch
The successor to perhaps my favorite album ever had a lot to live up to. I think perhaps my expectations were unrealistic but I still love this album even if it has a more somber tone than their previous work and spends more time on the downside of love.
“I wanna do everything
That you want me to, to tell you the truth”
Julia Jacklin - Crushing
Best Track - Body
This was the album I went back to listen to when deciding which albums to nominate from my list that I was most impressed with, I forgot how good it was. Her second album is absolutely fantastic and I hope she manages to match this caliber with her next one.
“Do you still have that photograph?
Would you use it to hurt me?
Well, I guess it’s just my life
And it’s just my body”
Ezra Furman - Twelve Nudes
Best Track - I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend
This was an artist who I discovered when I was looking over albums to write the nominations for 2018 and is probably have listened to the most since then. I love this album and all of Ezra’s work and if you haven’t to them I highly recommend you do.
“Honey, I know that I don’t have the body you want in a girlfriend
What I’m working with is less than ideal
But maybe, baby, it’s not all about what you thought that you wanted
It’s about the way I can make you feel”
Alex Cameron - Miami Memory
Best Track - Far From Born Again
Bringing his usual mix of humor throughout this is a fun album that is worth a listen if you are unfamiliar with his work. Sometimes his songs just have a way of making you smile and sing along.
“I’m drinking in the dark because my battery’s all ran out”
